Why Higher Education

Impact that lasts a lifetime

  • A four-year college degree can have a tremendous impact on an individual, a family, a neighborhood or community. It changes the trajectory for not only the person earning the degree, but everyone involved. It opens doors and opportunities that otherwise did not exist.
  • Relationships developed while in college can last a lifetime. Classmates become colleagues or business partners. Faculty members become mentors and serve as recommendations.
  • Your professional network is exponentially greater.

Employment

  • Statistics support the additional life-time earnings for individuals with a four-year degree as opposed to a two-year degree or a high school diploma only.
    • Plus $525 in weekly earnings with a Bachelor’s degree over high school diploma only.
    • Additional $590 in weekly earnings with a Professional degree over a Bachelor’s degree only.
  • In 2021, unemployment rate for those with a high school diploma was 6.2% compared to 3.5% of those with a Bachelor’s degree and 2.6% for those with a Master’s degree.
  • Over 50% of small business owners have at least a Bachelor’s degree.

Fulfilling career

  • Post-secondary education allows you to specialize in a particular job or career not afforded to those without additional education.
  • Advancement in most professions are more readily available to those with advanced degrees.

Diversity

  • Diversity in ethnicity, gender, religion, worldview, ideologies, socio-economic status, hometowns, etc. all converge on a college campus and add invaluable depth and richness to one’s education.  The more diverse the campus and classroom, the better the education.
